The number of contests close enough to watch continues to grow daily. As a result, I’m adding RI-01 because new polling shows the race effectively tied. RI-01: (Open, currently held by Democrats) (Update 10/29: The NBC 10-Quest Research poll has Democrat David Cicilline at 42 percent, Republican John Loughlin at 40 percent.) There are also [...]

There are several updates today thanks mainly to a new round of polling from The Hill newspaper. At the beginning of the week, I wrote of how remarkably competitive so many of these races remained so close to election day, and how many would break one way or another depending on the atmosphere this last week. With that in mind, the news is not good for Democrats.

For over a month now, Republican Rand Paul has managed to maintain a modest lead over Democrat Jack Conway in the Kentucky open Senate race, and with only a week left until the election, signs point to a Paul victory. PPP is out with a new poll showing Paul with a 13 point lead. PPP [...]

I’m adding two seats, KY-06 and NE-01, to the FDL Election Hot House list (making it the Hot House 100!) because recent public polling has shown both races within five points. KY-06: Incumbent Dem Ben Chandler has only a four-point lead over GOP challenger Andy Barr according to a new Mason-Dixon poll. Chandler 48 – [...]

Amazingly, given the high profile of the Nevada Senate race, the big spending on both sides, the incredibly hard hitting ads, and the symbolic importance of the contest, there has been almost no movement in the polls for months. Sen. Harry Reid and Sharron Angle are still tied, according to the latest Mason-Dixon Poll for [...]

With the primary tomorrow, three polling firms, Mason-Dixon (PDF), Quinnipiac and PPP (PDF), are out with their final surveys of the Democratic Senate primary and the Republican gubernatorial primary in Florida. All three pollsters agree that Rep. Kendrick Meek now has at least a ten-point lead over Billionaire Jeff Greene. Meek appears to be in [...]

Just over a week from the August 24 Florida primary, two polls show the Democratic Senate primary and the dynamics of the overall Senate race in very different shape. Mason-Dixon has Rep. Kendrick Meek with a huge lead over his billionaire opponent Jeff Greene, while Ipsos still has Greene with a modest lead. Mason-Dixon (PDF) [...]

When both candidates have strong unfavorable numbers, the only strategy left is to convince voters to dislike the other candidate more. Welcome to the campaign strategy of Sen. Harry Reid in Nevada.

In a rather surprising and quick reversal of fortunes, Attorney General Bill McCollum has taken the lead in the Republican primary for governor in Florida over billionaire political novice rival Rick Scott, according to a new Mason-Dixon poll. Mason-Dixon (8/9-11) Bill McCollum 34 Rick Scott 30 This is an extremely impressive surge for McCollum. Just [...]
