Ads of the Week

By: Wednesday October 20, 2010 10:39 pm

A semi-regular campaign feature of some of the most notable ads I’ve seen… • AK-Sen: This was a little while back, but I think it may account for Lisa Murkowski’s recent surge in the polls. Lisa Murkowski resurrected an ad she was going to run in the Republican primary featuring Ted Stevens, before he passed [...]

Ads of the Day

By: Thursday October 7, 2010 8:41 pm

(A recurring feature of ads that have caught my eye) • CA-Gov: This isn’t going on television, at least not in this form. But it’s a catchy Web ad slamming Meg Whitman, and one of the most interesting aspects of it is who it comes from – the prison guards’ union, not seen as a [...]

Whitman Tries to Turn Nanny Problem Into Partisan Food Fight

By: Thursday September 30, 2010 2:10 pm

Meg Whitman held an unusual (for her) press conference today, which is still ongoing, in Santa Monica. I found out the location a bit too late to attend, but the gist of it, as I gather, is that Whitman wants to blame Jerry Brown for her hiring undocumented immigrant Nicky Diaz Santillan, and exploiting her [...]

CA: Voters Dicey on Dems But at Least They Still Oppose Global Warming

By: Thursday July 29, 2010 9:46 pm

A new PPIC poll of California shows slim leads for Democrats Jerry Brown and Barbara Boxer. The looming cloud is Prop. 23, an effort by big oil companies to suspend the state’s strong climate-change law. Although support for the proposition is weak, the companies’ millions may be able to buy plenty of votes before November.

The bad news for Democrats keeps coming from the Field Research polling, which just yesterday showed Jerry Brown effectively tied in the Governor’s race with Meg Whitman. Today Field released its results from the Senate contest, (PDF) and they show incumbent Democrat Barbara Boxer with only a three-point lead over her Republican challenger, Carly Fiorina. [...]

By: Wednesday July 7, 2010 10:57 am

California Attorney General Jerry Brown currently holds a single-point lead over his Republican opponent for Governor, Meg Whitman. This sliver of a lead is within the Field Poll’s (PDF) margin of error, meaning the race is effectively tied at this point. Field 6/22-7/5 Brown 44 Whitman 43 Undecided/Others 13 Interestingly, Whitman holds a small lead [...]

Prop 19: Jerry Brown Dangerously Uninformed About Consequences of Marijuana Prohibition

By: Wednesday June 30, 2010 4:48 pm

California state Attorney General and Democratic candidate for governor Jerry Brown has recently displayed a dangerous lack of knowledge about basic economics and the likely effects of marijuana legalization. From KSBW: Brown was in Monterey on Tuesday to speak at the California District Attorneys Association Conference, and said legalizing marijuana would open the flood gates [...]

CA-Gov: Meg Whitman Shoved an Employee While at eBay

By: Tuesday June 15, 2010 2:10 pm

The word that came to mind was “Bully”. In June 2007, an eBay employee claimed that Ms. Whitman became angry and forcefully pushed her in an executive conference room at eBay’s headquarters, according to multiple former eBay employees with knowledge of the incident. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because the matter was delicate [...]

By: Thursday May 27, 2010 8:40 pm

To combat a potential multimillionaire GOP opponent, Democrat Jerry Brown’s supporters are trying to raise $40 million so he can become California’s Governor–again.
