There is some bad news for the Democratic party. According to the latest George Washington University Battleground Poll, the Republican party has taken a significant lead in the generic ballot.
If the election was held today 46 percent would vote for the Republicans in their district while only 42 percent would support the Democrat. When they last polled this question back in March the two parties were tied.
The poll also found that voters perceive Republicans as better able to handle the big issues of the economy 49/42, foreign policies 50/40, and even immigration 48/41. The Democrats at least maintain on edge when it comes to Medicare and standing up for the middle class.
This is especially good news for Republicans given that the fact that they don’t even need to be particularly popular to make real gains. Given the political landscape, simply being tied with Democrats would translate into some real victories.
The Senate races up this year heavily favor the GOP and thanks to recent gerrymandering the Republicans can even narrowly lose the popular vote for Congress and still win a clear majority of the House seats.
