At this point, Republicans hold the advantage

When it comes to the 2014 Congressional election Republicans hold a small advantage over Democrats. Two new national polls confirm that GOP has a small lead in the generic ballot.

The new GW Battleground Poll found that if the election were held today 43 percent would vote for the Republican in their district, while 41 percent would vote for the Democrat.

Quinnipiac found similar results in their recent national poll. In their poll Republicans had a one point advantage leading Democrats 38 percent to 37 percent.

Because of gerrymandering the Republicans have a large structural advantage in the House, and the seats up in the Senate lean Republican so even a small lead in the generic ballot is a big deal for Republicans.
