In the Virginia governor’s race Democrat Terry McAulliffe continues to hold a modest but solid lead over Republican Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli in all the public polling for the past two months. Two recently released polls both confirm that McAulliffe has a single digit lead over Cuccinelli.
The NBC/Marist poll found McAulliffe at 43 percent among likely voters, Cuccinelli at 38 percent and Libertarian candidate Robert Sarvis at 8 percent.
The Washington Post-SRBI also had found McAulliffe with an five point lead but their poll did not include Sarvis. It has McAulliffe with 49 percent among likely voters compared to Cuccinelli with 44 percent.
What is really driving McAulliffe’s lead in all recent polls is his strength with women. According to the Marist poll, McAulliffe has an impressive 18 point advantage among female voters. This “war on women” narrative is paying off in Virginia.
