It is starting to look more and more likely that actress Ashley Judd will run against Mitch McConnell (R) for the Kentucky Senate seat next year. Democratic John Yarmuth, who represents Kentucky’s third congressional district, seems pretty convinced she will run and is laying the groundwork needed for a serious campaign. From ABC News:
[Ashely Judd] hasn’t announced yet, but her biggest supporter in Kentucky, Democratic Rep. John Yarmuth, told ABC News, “I would be surprised if she doesn’t run at this point.”
“My impression is this is something she wants to do, and she is now taking the time to make the contacts she needs to make throughout the state to try and generate commitments of support and in some cases fundraising,” Yarmuth said. “She is certainly acting like a candidate, a potential candidate.
“I think in her own mind … she has made a decision to run and she’s doing the right thing and not ruffling any feathers along the way,” Yarmuth said.
This would make for an interesting fight, to say the least. Mitch McConnell is a nationally polarizing political figure and Judd would probably find it very easy to raise a significant campaign war chest.

Well, she should have taken a page from Al Franken and move back to her home state before she started running.
It appears she is already starting with a black eye!
Huh? Wow! Doesn’t sound like an astute move.
She’s smart. I hope she runs.
Thanks Jon. Mitch’s gotta run hard to wingnut to get out of his own primary.
Closeted gay McConnell is old school privatize – give away everything to megacorp campaign contributors – and he is one of the slickest talkers of all time.
If Judd’s got the money, she can beat him. McConnell will say and do anything to beat a hard right teabagger primary opponent.
There’ll be lots of his own words to use against him.
NASCAR? Well, I suppose anything would be better than Mitch.
Mitch McConnell is a black eye for our country. It would be amazing to be rid of him for good
Who would the average, sensible Kentuckian rather look at for the next 6 years? The Turtle or Ashley?
Should be an easy call.
Americans have a Constitutional right to take up residence in a state other than the state of their birth without losing the right to run for office in their adopted home state.
If her residency is not legitimate, that is a different issue.
His alleged sexual orientation, announced or secret, has nothing to do with his fitness for office.
Let’s keep our attacks to his actions, not his race, alleged orientation, religion, etc.
Her wiki is a bit dated, stating she may return to Kentucky.
However, according to her wiki, she was born in California and has had ties with Kentucky since she was in elementary school. She has also had ties with, of course, California, Tennessee, Japan and other place. IOW, she is a typical American.
According to his own state income tax returns, Mitt Romney was a resident of Utah when he ran for Governor of Massachusetts Never slowed him down.
