Since it is Friday I thought I would bring you some comic relief. Comedian Steve Martin has made one of the most bizarre campaign web ads this cycle for Nebraska Democratic candidate for Senate Bob Kerrey.
The ad is unusual enough I suspect a decent number of people will end up watching it, but I can’t imagine it really moving voters in Nebraska.
Of course that might even be the point. Kerrey is trailing so badly in the polling, he has basically been left for dead by many Democratic-leaning organizations. The ad may simply serve to remind national Democrats that they actually have a Senate candidate running in Nebraska this year.

Same is true in TX Senate race. The Dem did quite well in the debate, but no one knows his name or, maybe, even that he’s running. Sad.
Love it! Nice to see a celebrity endorsement that is entertaining rather than obnoxious.
Bob Kerry is an asshole.
no more bizarre than alot of shit I saw in the GOP primary
refreshing!
Beats the heck out of talking to a chair.
Bob Kerrey is proof that even in Nebraska, people hate blue dogs. Either stop pretending to be a Democrat or stop behaving like a Republican.
Dumbass.
Margaret you are correct, at least as far as I am concerned. He’s another Ben Nelson. Did hear on local news tonight about some scandal regarding the Republican (Tea Party backed) opponent about her abusing her seat in the Unicameral to pass legislation to mess with neighbors trying to sell land to Fish and Game. Apparently, she and husband wanted that land for themselves.
Not sure it will make any difference at all: neither this commercial nor the news story.
Bob Kerrey is a neoconservative POS who supported the Iraq war.
I don’t think it’s bizarre. It’s good.
It’s just plain fuckin’ stooopid. If this is what it takes to try to get votes, no wonder we’re fucked in the drive-thru.
Oy!
They do? Because as far as I’m concerned, this is a race between two Republicans, one of whom is an enormous wanker.
Go Deb Fischer.
Yes! I thought it was very clever to create a comfortable, genial and amusing atmosphere, not so interesting that you couldn’t be distracted by the kind words for Bob Kerrey inserted into the frame. I found myself having warm feelings for the guy despite the fact that I don’t like him.
Let’s see what he’s done:
The “new” Democratic Party, which is a lot like the not so old Republican Party, in its wisdom, put him in charge of recruiting conservatives to run as Democrats for the Senate.
Then, there was this:

Didn’t make it as head of the Motion Picture Association. (Dodd succeeeded him.)
Then, he headed the New School, where the faculty gave him a vote of no confidence and students twice occupied the school, demanding his resignation. He had a good number of them arrested within five hours.
Now, Democrats are running him again for the Nebraska Senate, even though he had been a resident of New York for over a decade prior to his decision to run (hereinafter referred to as “pulling a Romney.”).
Can’t imagine why the good people of Nebraska are rejecting him.
Maybe Harry Truman knows.
I forgot to mention that Kerrey was also a member of the 911 Commission.
Surprised they didn’t get a cat in there, the only reason to make a wad of paper. I happen to be in the middle of Steve Martin’s novel, An Object of Beauty, which is an entertaining and occasionally profound look at the NY art scene. He is incredibly talented but this isn’t one of his better efforts.
Give people a choice between a Republican and a Democrat who acts like a Republican…….
and you get Bob Kerry trounced.
Alan Simpson wasn’t available to run for the Dem seat in Nebraska?
Amen!
