The bad news for Romney keeps on coming. In addition to trailing in the horse polls and getting lower marks than President Obama on almost every issue, Romney has lost the enthusiasm advantage he held earlier in the year. In the swing states more Democrats than Republicans are enthusiastic about voting this November. From Gallup:

The Republican Party had been banking on the fact that their base was extremely motivated to vote Obama out of office, but they hadn’t counted on the fact Democratic disdain for Romney would make them even more motivated to keep Romney out of the White House.

Well, now everyone’s’ even more scared of the Repubs than of the Dems. THAT”S what’s happening.
I don’t know if scared is the right word. I think loathing of Mittens has gone up.
I have a disdain for both of them so I’ll be voting Green.
I’m worried the GOP will just pour more resources into taking the Senate. Can Dems try to get on the offensive in the House to force spending there?
it seems mighty peculiar (not to me though) that the speech by the mutt was made public at just the right time.
hmmm…
Success for fear and loathing. I’ll vote Green as well.
Some blunder like this is always made on one side or the other as the election approaches.
Think McCain suspending his campaign to ‘solve’ the financial crisis. Or Howard Dean’s SCREAM heard round the world.
Since the advent of the camera-phone, everyone has a camera. This is why we’re seeing more stories of police violence, and now, more stories of political gaffes. Look for things like this to become commonplace.
I don’t think the Obama Admin had anything to do with the timing of this story. Mitt had already served them up their ammunition with his comments about the deaths in Libya. This was just icing on the cake.
I’m not thinking the obama team, I am more thinking the puppeteers who pull the strings of marionettes
Fairly meaningless, Bishop Willard was always meant to make Barry look good, and there a lot of people that get emotional satisfaction backing the winner. R or D means Wall Street wins.
We need more detectives like you on this crime age.
That I can’t argue with.
I’ve believed since early last year that Obama was picked for reelection. If the puppet masters wanted someone else, they would’ve put up a viable candidate.
Just like New Dealers that never made the transition from radio campaigns to television, today’s politicians are facing a transition to an internet based media. Some of them will make the transition, some won’t.
In the old days it was enough to remember what group you were speaking to and pull your set of
liespositions from the drawer for that group. You could go from a meeting with the Timber Plutocrats saying how we need to use our resources to create wealth and jobs to a meeting with Friends of Trees and tell them how committed you are to the environment, how much you enjoy the outdoors and how we need to preserve it for your grandchildren. You could feel safe that nobody would be attending both meetings and notice yourliesinconsistencies. Now everybody is on camera all the time. Lack of privacy isn’t just for the peons. Lindsay Lohan gets caught on camera stealing jewelry, Kate gets her bewbs on the cover of a magazine, the Mittster gets caught telling the truth. Smile, you’re on Candid Camera!
This takes a different skill set. Mitt doesn’t have it. Maybe nobody over 50 has it.
Excellent observations. I couldn’t agree more. With the advent of widespread camera use, coupled with the advent of social media, vast audiences can see everything candidates say within hours of their saying it.
Seriously hurts old-school campaigners like the GOP crowd.
SO once again, Dems only succeed because republicans fuck up.
Skill set? You mean the ability to say nothing with enthusiasm?
Somehow I think that millions of eyeballs aren’t an effective weapon.
IF the election was decided by popular vote ( like in a democracy) I’d feel OK about it…but…….
Once again…

The skill set of carrying a consistent message for years, realizing you’re on-camera 100% of the time, and never letting your hair down in an allegedly “safe” environment. There aren’t any safe environments any more.
I watched an interview with McCain where he took diametrically opposed positions within 10 minutes (and the interviewer didn’t call him on it). We see old-school pols using the “how DARE you claim that I ever said anything else” or “out of context”, or “liberal gotcha media” excuses, but now any 10 year old can splice two pieces of video together and post it to YouTube.
Keeping your lies straight and pandering to your audience of the moment is a skill set. Maintaining a consistent façade for years on end in a different skill set.
Go, lesser of two evils (barely), go!
bingo. it’s a great con.
OTOH I do have some fun making up Rmoney’s acceptance speech. “You like me! You really, really like me!!!”
I think that is a very unlikely investment for a prospective comprador.
Please tell me why people under 50 would accept a comprador who has.
I agree…I cannot fathom a Republican paying $50,000 a plate to attend a Romney fundraiser, recording Romney’s speech and then giving it to the media. Highly unlikely. Obama is destined to win. It has been the plan all along.
I agree the “loathing” factor remains unmeasured.
He continues to piss off larger and larger sectors of the voting populace and the democrats slogan of “We suck Less” is really taking hold.
Democrats don’t have an offense. They’re like Peyton Manning last game. Got no ground game this time either.
Ol’ dave IS pretty much on target most of the time.
I’m sorry…what’s your point? :-)
Agreed. I feel the problems is/was that he’s been running for president for 7 years. Nobody can remember lies for that long.
If you vote for Obama primarily because you are afraid that Romney might win, then “scared” is definitely the correct word.
The Democrats have scared me one time too many. Ain’t fallin’ for it no more.
“We suck less” is no longer true.
Not even, “We suck ever so slightly less” is true.
For just one example of many possible ones, no Republican President could have been the first Democratic President to call social safety nets “entitlements” and to propose diminishing Social Security.
When Bush did it, Democrats blocked him. When Obama did it, it became an inevitability. No Republican could have done that.
For that reason (and a number of similar examples), I have come to believe that voting for Obama would be the greater of two evils, not the lesser.
Continuing to vote Democratic will only reinforce their meme that “The Left has nowhere else to go, so there’s nothing to lose by going yet further right.
So, I am voting for Dr. Jill Stein. I wish everyone on the left would because a solid showing for a single third party would scare Democrats more than a scattered vote. I don’t think Bill Clinton’s priority was attacking the deficit when he set out to run. And then came Ross Perot.
Stein at least got herself on the ballot in most states and qualified for federal funding.
However, I despair of Democrats uniting for any cause, even the good of the country in general and themselves in particular.
Hell, people don’t even remember Obama’s lies from 2008.
By the way, Romney’s been running for President since at least 1994. He just believed that he should hold at least one elected office before throwing his hat in the ring for President.
He thought Kennedy was vulnerable in 1994, but Kennedy made a comeback. And the time to run for Governor of Massachusetts was not his until 2002, when a very weak acting Governor was the only Republican to beat.
