In the past few days three new polls of Virginia have found President Obama with a lead outside of the margin of error. Mitt Romney has managed to gain no traction in the state. The polling indicates the size of Obama’s lead is basically unchanged from a month ago, but voters are now more locked in to their choice with fewer undecideds:
Quinnipiac (9/11-17)
Barack Obama 50%
Mitt Romney 46%
Someone else 1%
DK/NA 3%
Washington Post (9/12-16)
Barack Obama 52%
Mitt Romney 44%
No Opinion 4%
Public Policy Polling (9/13-16)
Barack Obama 49%
Mitt Romney 45%
Gary Johnson 2%
Virgil Goode 1%
Jill Stein 1%
Undecided 3%
Virginia appearing out of reach for Romney is particularly bad news for his campaign. It is theoretically possible for Romney to get to 270 without Virginia but it would be very difficult. Almost any path for Romney that doesn’t include Virginia basically requires Romney to win Ohio, but the recent polling in that swing state is just as bad for Romney.

Rmoney would like to keep redistribution flowing from workers pensions, small biz incomes into his Bainish bonuses and pockets, for pete’s sake
What’s not to like?
When are we going to see Mitt shake the etch a sketch to try and get the voters he needs to win? With what issue or attack can Mitt possibly use to get the votes he needs to win?
Polls like this are close enough for R to win via the well known vote manipulation.
As far as I’m concerned it was over when Bernanke announced he was going to try and jump start the economy last week. Wall st. doesn’t want RMONEY, why should they? Under Obama they’ve thrived as has the whole 1% they represent. They see that a RMONEY Presidency means an even deeper Depression and have balked. Plus, they see what a clueless putz he is and it appears they can’t even stand the thought of 8 more yrs. of a BV$H like clone. Obama is sufficiently Corporatist for the Plutocrats so he’ll get a pass. In either case it’s not going to mean anything great for the rest of us. If Obama gets the nod, as it appears today he’ll probably make a deal with the Reptiles to cut SSI, Medicare et al. He probably won’t however let the military have everything they want or the OILY gangs. Beyond that the rest of us are going to get our taxes raised and watch the elite be given another pass. Personally, I’ve had enough, I’m voting for Jill Stein as a protest against Herbert “Hoover” Obama since I didn’t vote for Repub. and that’s what it appears I got last time.
Despite what the polls show now, what will happen after the PAC’s, Super PAC’s and Super Secret PAC’s fully open their floodgates in the final weeks of the campaign? And, followed up with voter suppression efforts and finished with vote-counting machinations?
Will the corporate-controlled press then proceed to calmly explain, after the polls close, why it is no surprise that Romney won by a landslide, so people won’t get too exorcised and take to the streets after another stolen election?
Agreed and I would like to hear what Obama is doing about that we don’t need another weak Dem who just lets the GOP steal the election from him like our last two candidates before Obama.
Cripes if the GOP steals the election Chicago will have riots and Chicago already has a record murder rate this year.
All the tv ads in the world can’t sell Mitt however
This is a problem if Mitt wins I expect GOP governors to have the National Guard on standby. African Americans read the same polling we do if they see Blue States where Obama was comfortably ahead suddenly go Red on election day this won’t be good.
I think a sign the election will be stolen will be if GOP Governors call in the National Guard before the election.
I believe that it’s simply not possible for Mitt to win or to even make the electoal college remotely competitive. He MUST win VA and FL to even have a “chance” and that seems most unlikely.
Understand I am doing all I can to control my unbridled enthusiasm for Romney’s defeat while m onitoring my disapppointment in 4 more years of Obama. KInda like winning a new Turbo POrsche and then learning you have to pay taxes and insurance on it.
I DO agree that there is not enough money in the world to turn the election at this point. If Obama was caught driving drunk on sunday morning after running down a blind nun in a crosswalk with a trunk full of cocaine, he’d probably still win.
And, I think we have Romney to thank for that. so to speak.
I don’t think Mitt can win either without voter tampering. But it sure will be funny to hear Mitt’s people try and spin a scenario about how Mitt can win without Virginia or pull a surprise win in Ohio when the auto bailout he opposed is helping the economy.
I refuse to vote for Obama but yes I am happy too to hear Mitt is introuble.
I thknk most of the National Guard is deployed in Afghanistan. Might be a couple hundred old guys like me with a WWII Sherman tank hangin’ around at the VFW hall.
That picture of Obama makes me ill. As do all the photos of Obama.
I can’t listen to the man, or watch him.
I ‘spose that falls under the “misery loves company” banner.
I’m good with that. You KNOW I love it when bad things happen to bad people. And I hate to admit there is a new “spring in my step” this morning”.
Ok then who can GOP Governors call in Ohio a likely must win for Mitt has several cities with large African American populations there is no way the GOP Gov is going to let riots happen.
Maybe we should worry about BlackWater Mercs? I would not put it past Rahm to hire them as Mayor of Chicago and he is a Dem in Name Only.
WOW! I thought it was just me. I couldn’t watch him last night on Letterman.
Aside from stealing the election a Coup by the Right is the only way Mitt wins.
The obvious answer is let/make sure Obama wins. Without the help of Samantha, the witch on Bewitched, and/or those three girls on “Charmed”, I thiknk Romney is “toast in Ohio.
OT, that Alyssa Milano is HOT!!!
I’m not sure the “right” wants Mitt to win. As several of our colleagues here have said frequently, esp eCAHN, the PTB are quite happy with Obama and romney has proivedn to be a ignorant, spoiled, moron.
Look at that Public Policy Polling poll. Jill Stein represents the 1%!
Mitt won’t win.
The erosion of the Reagan coalition has been going on for 15+ years now. 9/11 bought then a couple of cycles. Redistricting and Diebold bought them a little time. CU doesn’t seem to be helping much (it will be more effective in four years when it is an open seat). Voter suppression is not going to be all that effective.
They’re like the Fed – they’ve used up all their ammo and it still won’t be enough. They just don’t have enough voters anymore, and their base of bigots and reactionaries won’t let them expand their party enough to be competitive.
dave, you are “spot on”. It’s the Alamo all over again.
The GOP is gonna have to remake themselves into something other than a “disgruntled, rich, old white man’s party”. Now, understand that lots of those members are dying off and while soome may look at that as a “glass half empty” kinda thing. I prefer to look at it as a “glass half full”. Get rid o McCain, McConnell, Kyl, Romney and the like, and maybe, just maybe, the GOP can become the party of Eisenhower and Dirksen again. Compassionate conservatives.
I still say the Pubs are going to steal it. The RCP poll average has Obama up just 2.7% over the Romster today–down from 2.9% yesterday, down from 3.0% yesterday, down from 3.1% the day before, down from 3.3% the day before that. This is consistent with my belief that the bump came from Bill Clinton and is slowly fading.

“romney has proivedn to be a ignorant, spoiled, moron.”
no, that’s what they like about him.
that Hot remark reminds me of something,…have you seen the texas chile contest joke? It’s hilarious.
i DON’T CARE if President Obama is leading, still i’m voting for Romney regardless if he is bad, good or excellent.
The question remains is how outrageously bad will Rmoney be in the debates? That’s the plan now. The focus for the GOP now will be to focus on Ryan and try to salvage him.
If Obama was caught driving drunk on sunday morning after running down a blind nun in a crosswalk with a trunk full of cocaine, he’d probably still win.
He’d also be given honorary membership in the NFL Players Association.
I couldn’t stomach listening to him after about, say, late summer of 09.
I find him more offensive to hear than Bush, and with him I thought I’d reached the end of my rope, but no.
I wish the paranoid people on this site would stop nattering about the Rethugs “stealing” the election. In 2000,Gore lost Florida because of the “butterfly” ballot in Palm Beach County which cost him 3000 votes and the state. In 2004,Kerry lost Ohio by 119,000 votes, much too many votes to “steal”
The way that Romney is collapsing,Obama should win by at least as many points as he beat McCain, namely 7.27.Way,way too many votes.Obama has this election in the bag,the only questions left are the House and Senate. We must take the House and keep the Senate or else the big Obama win will largely be negated.
