While the Republican national convention appears to have barely moved the polling in Mitt Romney’s direction, early signs indicate that President Obama received a modest but significant bounce from his convention. The Gallup daily tracking poll out today has Obama with a five point lead over Romney among registered voters.
The poll has Obama at 49 percent and Romney at 44 percent. This is a real jump from a week ago. Right before the Democratic convention the Gallup poll had Obama at 47 percent and Romney at 46 percent.
Not only is this a noticeable improvement from just before the conventions but it is also the best Obama has done in months. The last time Obama was at or above 49 percent support in this poll was in late April.
The tracking poll out today includes surveys from September 3-9th. The convention only officially began on the 4th and Obama didn’t give his speech until the 6th. It is possible some new polling that takes place entirely after the Democratic convention ended will finding an even larger bounce.
Given how remarkably static the presidential race has been this year even this modest level of movement should be seen as a rather impressive accomplishment for a campaign, especially when compared to the completely lack of bounce for Romney.
It would seem Bill Clinton beats an old man arguing with an empty chair.

Bill’s speech was great and I am sure swayed many independent voters. But Clint’s speech and Ryan’s constant lying I am sure embarrassed the GOP even more than Bill helped us.
Why because the GOP does not listen to facts. They do listen to emotion based appeals though and Clint’s speech gave them the emotion of WTF?
Ryan their idea man’s constant lying does not bolster confidence. Mitt’s lying also weakens GOP faith in just what position he really holds.
We care about facts. They care about emotion and their convention showed several reasons for GOPers to lack confidence.
GOPers need emotion a clear enemy to rally against and a Leader to rally them Mitt while giving them an enemy lacked at proving himself a leader.
He needs a vision. More tax cuts for the rich will create jobs is not a vision even GOPers can believe.
I hold Obama is leading more because people think Mitt will be worse among Dem and independent voters. Mitt has yet to convince his GOP base he is one of them as evidenced by Mitt still trying to win over his base.
Mitt needs to win over independent voters now and he has shown no plan so far to do so and time is running out.
GOP vote fraud and GOP attempts to stop Minorities from voting are the only way Mitt wins. Obama has to do something about this.
I wonder how many GOP votes Clint cost Mitt?
I wonder what is the ratio of pro Obama vs pro mitt stories in the MSM?
The GOP is mentioning that people in this economy have been leaving Blue States and going to low tax Red States since the economy collapsed.
I wonder if these voters will still vote Blue in Red States?

This could swing a few states.
Arizona chased out many legal Hispanics but maybe these former Blue State voters could swing the other states?
Wow, 49% of registered voters would rather have a severe ear infection, 44% would rather have an impacted wisdom tooth.
My guess? None.
By the time Nov rolls around, no one in the GOP will remember Clint’s performance piece. The GOP base is ever-reliable in pulling the lever for whomever their “masters” – aka their rightwing preachers, Rush, Glenn, etc – tell them to.
Clint’s performance piece won’t matter in the long run, esp insofar as the TeaGOPer base is concerned.
I’m at the stage where that brick wall is looking like a good place to pound my head…
I am sure it did not help Mitt get any bounce from his convention in the polls now but yes long term I think it will just add to the GOP’s list of mistakes that could have helped them win but did not. Obama I feel is winning because of Mitt’s mistakes on Women, Hispanics, Gays etc for Mitt to win his base he must piss off swing voters.
Mitt’s other mistakes are his debate performance not releasing his tax returns, flip flopping on abortion etc.
….hopefully that doesn’t mean you want to get your brain to the point where you can easily convert!
If Obama had modelled his polices after FDR instead of Reagan/Bush/Cheney, there would be no Republican that could touch him.
Eight Years of Dubya had nearly destroyed the Rethug Party.
3 years of Oilbomber brought it back to life. It’s as healthy as it ever was.
In 2008, Voter self-identification as Republican had reached an all time low.
Now they’re back with a vengeance.
Because Oilbomber didn’t fix anything.
IN many ways, he’s made things worse.
heh… my brain on mush is still too smart to convert!
The fifth of bourbon Clint nearly finished backstage gave him the empty chair idea. Where is my hairdresser! Then he apparently got confused where he was at: who started the war in Afghanistan, bring the troops home tomorrow, just ask the Russians, politicians come around every 4th year then disappear. And we oughtn’t elect a lawyer POTUS (Romney also went to Harvard Law). The clueless audience just clapped in response at their cues as in “who you telling to STFU”?
Even if he can’t pass healthcare as we want it, just don’t see POTUS telling anyone to STFU. (Well, maybe in the upcoming debates!)
