President Obama, who has always done well with Latinos, has seen his level of support from the community pushed to a new high. According to a national poll from Latino Decisions, President Obama is now winning an incredible 70 percent of the Latino vote compared to Romney who is only getting 22 percent. From Latino Decisions:

We are seeing the ramifications of the recent Republican policy shift on all matters immigration. Latino voters have traditionally favored Democrats, but not long ago both parties at least made real efforts to try to win over this voting group. It was just five years ago that George W. Bush did a lot of outreach to Latinos and even made a real push for comprehensive immigration reform.
In the past few years though, there has been a momentous policy shift from the GOP. Republicans have pushed tough anti-immigration laws in the states, while on the national level the GOP has turned against even the popular DREAM Act. The idea of Republicans actually pushing comprehensive immigration reform now seems almost unimaginable. Mitt Romney has taken a hard stance against illegal immigration, going so far as to refuse to even say if he will maintain Obama’s new policy of allowing children to stay in the country.
While President Obama has made some moves to appeal to Latinos, the polling shift seems to be as much a reflection of Republicans effectively ceding the group as opposed to Democrats doing a great job of winning them over.

That chart explains why Republicans need to step up their game in heavily Latino states to purge voter rolls of assumed illegal voters. If a felon named Jose Gomez from Maine shows up on a federal listing, then just think of all the Jose Gomezes you can strike from the rolls throughout the southwest and Florida!
If you can’t win them, then deny them.
I wonder if the Latino increase will be enough to make up the loss of the progressive side of the base? Many of the progressives I have talked with fully intend on voting third party – including myself.
I believe I read elsewhere that Obama received around 67% of the Latino vote in 2008. An increase to 70% as shown in this chart, along with growth in the bottom-line number of Latino voters from 2008 to 2012, certainly seems like good news for Obama.
Good move. Obama and Romney are essentially the same guy anyway.
This just proves how ill-informed the Latino community is in.re. Obama’s policies.
I guess we will find out come November, but I am really curious about the progressive third party vote this year. I voted for Obama in 2008, but will be voting for Jill Stein and the Green Party in 2012.
Seems to me like the conventional wisdom from inside the Democratic Party is that progressive defections will be minimal and that their vote will fall in line. Reading DailyKos and TPM, sites that hold themselves out as progressive, I can see how they would come to that conclusion. Both are currently in full-speed reelection mode, and the articles and posts for the most part display no sense of dissatisfaction at all with Obama or the Democratic Party (i.e., no more “speaking truth to power” from those two). I do not mean that necessarily as a criticism of those two sites, but only wish to highlight that they show a surprising lack of progressive dissatisfaction and/or defection.
On the other hand, there are people like Glenn Greenwald, who for his part frequently voices displeasure with the pro-war, pro-secrecy agenda of the Obama administration. But maybe even he and others like him will still support Obama in the end.
The dems don’t want to state the disappointment from the progressive faction. Wondering if Bill Press passed on the info he recieved on FDL?
Bill Press is just another in a long line of “Democratic” shills who portrays himself as objective and progressive, when he is neither.
DailyKos is explicitly meant to elect dems. Doesn’t matter if David Duke became a dem, their mission statement is electing dems.
Many so-called libs and progressives in the media will likely vote bo. Despite all the truth telling about bo and his reaganesque policies, they are scared shitless about romney. These worhtless pieces of shit seem to have forgotten what FDR said about the only thing you have to fear!
These puppets live in a constant state of fear. Unfortunately they fear that they’re not doing enough to please their corporate masters rather than the 99%.
