President Obama currently holds an impressive eight point lead over Mitt Romney in Virginia, and he is effectively tied with Romney in North Carolina, according to new polling by PPP.
In 2008 Barack Obama put North Carolina and Virginia in the Democratic column for the first time in decades. PPP’s newest poll in those two states finds him running very close to his performance four years ago. In Virginia he leads Mitt Romney by 8 points, 50-42, and in North Carolina he has a single point advantage at 47-46.
Our polling in both of these states has been pretty steady over the last year and a half. Obama has consistently fared very well in Virginia, leading by 6 points, 8 points, and now 8 points again on our last three polls. This is looking like it could be something of a firewall state for him. We have now polled North Carolina 22 times since late November of 2010. 21 out of those 22 times Obama and Romney have been within 3 points of each other. The state’s about as much of a toss up as it could possibly be.
One of the more important developments in recent presidential politicians has been the rise of the new Southern swing states of Virginia and North Carolina. As recently as 2004 Virginia and North Carolina were solid Red states. Bush won both by huge margins in 2004, even though John Kerry choose North Carolina Senator John Edwards as his running mate.
Yet in less than a decade Virginia has moved strongly towards the Democratic party on the presidential level. In polling averages Obama is actually performing better in Virginia than he is nationally. It is easy to picture how in a close election, Obama winning Virginia’s 13 electoral votes could prove to be decisive.

Clearly, not enough voter disenfranchisement has occurred.
“Obama Leads in Virgina”
Freudian slip?
I guess it’s as good thing for Obama (if not for the rest of us) that Obama has Virginia’s 13 electoral college votes all sewn-up … as, right now, and prolly later, PA’s 20 (used to be 21) votes, likely, are going to “swing” in another direction …
But then, that’s just the fickle, unexplainable contrariness of pollyticks, doncha know? Even without the intended disenfranchisement, that “poll tax”, which Holder is all up in the news about.
So if Obama “loses” PA, it will be all about how he actually “won” but those nasty Rethugs (and they are, nasty, and mean-spirited, too) “stole” the state … aided by the effing retards who voted third party …
Ain’t the kabuki absolutely riveting?
I’m “here”, in the Pitts, chewin’ muh seat and sittin’ on the edge of my fingernails.
Boy howdy!
I don’t think I’ve been so excited since the molasses truck turned over and spilled, very slowly, its load one winter night, in the middle of an ice storm, up there on Bald Eagle Mountain, where ya can see seventy-five miles on a clear day. Now, a course, we couldn’t see no seventy-five miles that evening … but, it was real excitin’ watching all them perfessers from the college come roarin’ up the hill only to encounter the stickiest stuff you ever did see, especially as they was no place to go, so ever one of ‘em got stuck and a few got they’s fenders bended … nobody got hurt, mind, but you shoulda heard the language … curlt muh muh ears, shore enuf. I even lernt a couple of choice phrases that afternoon.
Yeppers, this here erection looks to be shaping up into just that kinda thang.
I reckon as how we is about the luckiest folks on earth. Yersiree, ever four years them politicians put on a show and all the pundits and advisers, thems a couple words I picked up that long ago day, is gonna git in a tizzy and friends are gonna stop talkin’ to friends and family … and, ya know what … ’tain’t gonna make no difference any old way.
Thnigs ain’t gonna change, ‘cept fer the worse, just like up on that mountain … they got that there truck turned right-side up, finally, but it took a couple weeks afore ya could drive through there without slidin all over the road, especially at night, and ya knew that it weren’t the seventy-five miles that was important … but the 500 foot drop … if ya went “over”.
Well, it’s been good, chewin’ the fat with ya all, but I gotta get back up there, cuz, that’s about the onliest place ’round cheer where a body can find any excitement … they got a TeeVee up there at the lodge what gets only two channels, acourse theys both from the same network, just different towns, so only the local news and pollytishuns is different, but it shore beats watching the grass grow in the drought we is havin’.
Well, so long, its been …
