Among white voters there is a clear generational divide among who they plan to support in the Presidential race this year, but there is not a similar age divide among non-white voters. In general, younger whites are more likely to support President Obama than older whites, but among non-whites all age groups support Obama equally. From Gallup:

This is an important aspect of the Republicans push for so-called “anti-voter fraud laws” that make it harder for people to register to vote and cast a ballot. It is not only that minorities are less likely to hold a valid photo ID, but younger people tend to be much more mobile than older Americans. Efforts to make it harder to register to vote after moving, like the new Republican supported law in Florida, are likely to reduce voting among younger whites and therefore help the Republican Party.

If Obama has a plan he can get the 18-29 vote easy student loans and Women’s issues should help. The 30 to 39 voters are only 10% away but they need jobs because they have families to support and they got stuck in the housing boom with high priced homes.
If Obama wants to win them over he needs to create jobs and help homeowners STAT.
Obama cannot count on Mitt saying more stupid stuff to turn off more voters he needs to take action and not rely on Mitt’s errors.
Maybe the reason older voters are against Obama is that they remember the real Democratic Party? This may be more a reflection of former, now disillusioned Dems not going for Zero than them favoring Mitt.
This poll shows that if it were up to white voters, Romney would win over Obama by 15-25 points!
I don’t believe it. The nation is racist, but not that racist. The nation is stupid, but not that stupid.
The repugs must be shitting bricks. The Sac Bee had a story yesterday about the new Minority Majority that just turned the corner to reality. There are more “other types” than whites in the good old US of A. dang. heehee.
Barack Obama would not be staring at stark numbers like these if the Democratic Party elites weren’t a bunch of Neo-Liberal wankers. It would have been relatively easy (all things considered) to get big numbers among the polity, if only they had pursued sane policies. But it was not to be.
So now he’s dependent on the youth vote, which historically is quite weak in turnout. There’s no way they can repeat 2008, since roughly half of that demo are unemployed or being strangled by debt they are forced to carry by a ruthless government that really doesn’t like them very much.
The Party stalwarts are mostly older people and minorities of various types. And guess what? They’re being disenfranchised and no one at DOJ has anything to say about that!
Now, it’s been clear all along that the Democrats and OFA wanted a tight election this year. It’s just about the only way they can create some kind of phony drama to keep those getting screwed over somehow interested in Obama’s fortunes. This is how technocrats think about these things. It also goes a long way towards explaining Obama’s horrible policy choices, even in the middle of a re-election campaign. As such, I’m not convinced they really care about winning, quite frankly.
This is what Managed Democracy looks like. Campaigns have been effectively separated from governance.
We are offered the choice between Coke and Pepsi, but either way we’re going to lose our teeth.
As such, methinks GOTV is going to be a real bitch this year.
Count me in the apparent 10% who will be voting for “none of the above“.
I’m with Beach @ 2. I remember what Democrats stood for….when they stood for something. And if you want to play the race card, talk about why blacks are voting for Obama……..it sure can’t be because he’s done diddly for them.
Precisely
It bothers me tremendously that democrats can’t figure out how to get white people to vote for them – not everybody is a southern racist plutocrat. They need to increase their white vote rather than lazily rely on non-whites. As soon as Republicans realise that the road to office runs through non-white territory they will switch tactics on a dime. You can already see them beginning to criticise Dems for using Republican policy like lax regulation.
Democrats know perfectly well how to EARN votes. Thing is, they can’t make as much money that way, so they’ve jettisoned any such notion. Cash is King in DC.
The Democrats have their safe seats in congress. On the odd occasion, they might have to compete for a Senate seat. The White House changes hands every eight years. After Obama, Jeb Bush or a reasonable facsimile will take the reins of power.
The Democrats are happier being in the minority. It allows them to avoid responsibility for what they do. Why else would Nancy Pelosi still be Minority Leader after losing the House by behaving so badly for two years after a landslide election? Traditionally, a Speaker who manages to lose the House would resign, for obvious reasons.
The Democratic Leadership are not incompetent, in terms of their own priorities––only in terms of the Public and National Interests. Given how much support they still manage to get from the people they are screwing in a fine and desultory fashion, why else would they change their tune?
At some point, the “little people” need to start taking moral responsibility for the ill fortunes being visited upon us.
while it is LAUGHABLE to think that the people who vote for Mittens are going to get anything but screwed (unless you’re 1 of his thieving buddies)
I’m actually glad the support for 0bummer suck$ – he seriously misrepresented himself because he’s a fucking liar and working for them, so, he’s got what he earned.
rmm.
(p.s. all you brainiancs out there who can PROVE to me that 0bummer’s record sucked and his fuzzy hazy statements were NOT backed up by his voting record or his actions – YAWN. tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands didn’t go out in crappy weather to see this guy 4 years ago to hear ruminations on what the definition of is is … he knew what he was taking advantage of, and he had Geithner & those fucking scum on board before the end of November 2008)
