Rick Santorum is trailing Mitt Romney significantly in Wisconsin, according to a new poll by Marquette Law School. The poll has Romney up by eight points a week out from the April 3rd primary. From Marquette Law School:
In the Republican presidential primary on April 3rd, would you vote for Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, or Rick Santorum?
Gingrich 5
Paul 11
Romney 39
Santorum 31
Don’t know (v) 12
Refused (v) 1
This is a serious problem for the Santorum campaign. The sense of Romney’s inevitability is growing on an almost daily basis. A recent CNN poll found that 39 percent of the Republican base think Santorum should drop out.
For Santorum to have even a slim chance of winning the nomination, he needs something to shake up the race and change the current trajectory that has Romney securing the nomination. He needs to prove he can start beating Romney outside of the bible belt. Wisconsin is one of the few potential upcoming opportunities for Santorum to prove he can beat Romney all over the country. If Santorum doesn’t win Wisconsin, it will become much tougher for him to continue to make the case that he can stop Romney.

Lots of Catholics in Wisconsin this is weird Rick is doing better in Fundy states than Catholic states. I know Margaret came up with the idea that Mitt as a Mormon would have problems in Fundy states but not even she foreseen that Rick would go so Fundy that he a Catholic could not beat a Mormon in a state with a bunch of Catholics.
Why is Rick not getting more of the Catholic vote does anyone have any ideas? rick is running as an uber Catholic is the Uber approach turning off cafeteria Catholics?
Will they still be turned off in the general election to the GOP?
If Catholics are not voting for rick in numbers then how can the GOP get Catholic voters?
Da Church might want to rethink several of its right wing policies if Rick can’t get Catholics to vote for him.
Yesterday, I think it was, Santorum said that he’d be willing to take the VP spot with Romney.
To me, that was hollerin’ “uncle!” :o)
He also went on for a bit about how Mitt isn’t really a bad guy, and this ‘n’ that kissy-face stuff…which is more:
“Stick a fork in me; I’m done!” talk.
And, or course dubya is gonna endorse Romney, and most of the repub honchos are hot to neuter the party wing nuts and get them to shut up and take a few platform scraps, in Tampa. Romney’s sucking up to them, along with all of the lunatic statements by SO many repubs, has left the assholes with some political dues to pay.
I still don’t think that Obama can back into the White House while sitting, ass-frontwards, on the “I suck less!” pony.
We’ll see.
Santorum’s lead in Pennsylvania, his home state, is down to about 2 points. If the race there is that tight, and certainly if he loses, the pressure from the republican “establishment” to get out will become intense.
29% of all voters in Wisconsin are Catholic if we assume that 50% of the voters are GOPers then if Rick as the possible second Catholic President was getting all the Catholic votes then 29 *2= 59% of the vote. Thats just Catholics mind you we know Rick is getting Fundy votes.
What we are not seeing is Rick pulling a JFK and getting the Catholic vote. Rick can only help Mitt as VP by getting out the GOP base in Fundy states that the GOP should already expect to win. This means Rick can’t be VP since Mitt needs to win other states beyond the GOP base to win.
Unless of course Mitt can’t win the Fundy states without Rick in which case Obama wins reelection unless gas prices go to $6 a gallon or unemployment goes higher.

Rick Santorum is the embodiment of Christian Fascist ideology and is a set piece in a grand play that we call elections. The other christian fascist recognize who he is thus their support for him instead of the secular fascist like Romney or Obama.
Rick can’t win his home state with 27% Catholic votes then Mitt needs to find a better VP who can get him the Fundy states but who?
I know people like Rubio but a Hispanic would cost the GOP their racist vote they can’t afford to lose 5% or more ( I am guessing at the numbers) of their base.
So if Rick is out as VP who is next?

Agreed but the Catholic Right it seems from looking at Rick’s numbers can’t seem to get regular Catholics to vote for him. Mitt only picks Rick as VP if the polling shows Mitt losing the South to Obama which very well might happen.
But if the GOP is that desperate to shore up their base they lose the rest of the country. It is better for the GOP to hold the South and the West rather than risk losing down ticket GOP seats but will Mitt be a good solder and take one for the team?
I’d like to say that Sanctum Santorum doesn’t have a prayer in Wisconsin, but I try to avoid making awful puns on FDL.
Political analysts frequently make the mistake of referring to the Catholic vote as a whole rather than breaking it down into practicing and non-practicing Catholics. The latter are at least as socially liberal as the electorate as a whole.
I hope this is an indication of how the recall votes will go.
It seems as there aren’t enough of the crazy, I want control of your genitals, bible thumping, homophobes to get Little Ricky a win. Where common sense prevails, Little Ricky fails.
Have you met Punaise? :) The Lake is all about bad puns on a good day.
Not all Catholics are christian fascist. The christian fascist are like the confederate foot soldiers of the Civil War. Easily led to believe what the plantation owners want them to believe and at the same time quite disposable. Black Romney or White Obama will be the “choice” offered the American public.
Lots of practicing Catholics are to the Left of Rick. The majority of them are the GOP the pundits and Rick all seem to think we vote like we are a tribe following the leader.
Rick and the Right wing Church leadership must be wondering where are all the Catholic voters:)
The christian fascists, when it comes to Catholicism, are generally the hierarchy of the RCC, rather than the laity. The sooner this clown is kicked to the curb, the sooner he can mount his campaign for Pope.
I agree, thus many of the laity uses contraception and support the rights of women and don’t support Santorum, this person masquerading as a compassionate person
You are being too kind to refer to this entity as a person when his beliefs don’t qualify as humane, much less human.
Most Catholics aren’t zealots. They are okay with a couple hail marys for ignoring the pope on birth control. They aren’t nearly the authoritarian control freaks that the fundy crowd are.
He’s actually been kind of fun to watch. One day he’s blathering it’d be better to re elect Obama than to vote for Romney and then the next he’s declaring he’s ready to share the ticket with the guy he just said would be a worse choice than the present President.
I’m beginning to think ol’ Rick has multiple personalities.
Poor Rickles. He will have to console himself with a stack of gay porn videos. To remind himself how evil they are, of course!
He is unlike any Catholic I know. That’s why he’s losing the Catholic vote; the rank and file are not fanatics.
Although not the best resource in the world, last week on Real Time with Bill Maher, Andrew Sullivan said that most Catholics don’t hold the same belief structure as Santorum does. They may profess to be Catholic, but they don’t cotton to the Pope’s view of the world, which Santorum apparently espouses.
Sullivan said most of the US Catholics are like this, so Rick isn’t necessarily going to do well with them.
Andrew made this statement as an openly practicing Catholic, who said none of the folks in his parish gave a hoot on the topic of his partner.
What a shame…he was backing “Jon Doe” Walker. So, I voted for Father Rick!
Lately, he’s sure been all over the lot. I expect that the Wall Street wing of the GOP is telling him that it won’t help if he keeps sounding like Torquemada, in the Spanish Inquisition.
Santorum was 13 points behind and in this new poll he has gained 5 percentage points, so the news isnt bad. After the victory in Louisiana Santorum has proved the establishment cant just put Santorum out of the race. All the money in the world and party endorsements will not be as important as the grassroot support from the base. We, the voters, will choose who will be the party nominee! We dont want a flip flopper to represent us. We dont want Obamacare to be replaced with Romneycare
We dont want a candidate who puts on a different mask every week, the guy is a fake!

We want a candidate with a clear plan to bring back jobs and values to the United States, and who has the grassroot support to kick Obama out of the White House in november!! ***Santorum 2012***

Maybe they know him. Here are some examples:
Santorum put the screws to elderly veterans. http://www.disabledveterans.org/2012/01/22/santorum-put-the-screws-to-elderly-veterans/
Santorum: “Libertarians have this idea that people should be left alone, be able to do whatever they want to do, government should keep our taxes down, keep our regulations low, and that we shouldn’t get involved in the bedroom, we shouldn’t get involved in cultural issues. That is not how traditional conservatives view the world. There is no such society that I am aware of, where we’ve had radical individualism and that it succeeds as a culture.”
