The new Pew poll found that this is one of the most disliked Congresses in modern history, but it seems most of the blame for Congress’s dysfunction is being placed on the Republican Party. On a whole host of questions about which party is better at different things, the American people have turned sharply against the GOP since the midterm election. The trend, in just a year, according to Pew polling is incredible.

In the two important categories of which party is most honest and which party is better at governing, the net move towards Democrats has been in the double digits.
This is going to make for some very interesting political dynamics in 2012. If we had a straight parliamentary system we would simply expect a massive congressional loss for the GOP. But the 2012 election will be dominated by a Democratic president running for re-election and in such elections people often vote how well they think the president has handled the economy.
If the economy continues to struggle, it will be interesting to see which narrative ends up moving voters: the belief the Republican Party is a dishonest party that can’t govern or the fact that the Democratic Party’s leader has failed to deliver on the economy.
How the 2012 election shapes out could have important long term implications for what parties think is the best strategy for running Congress while not in the White House.

Jon!
This is why Republicans hate actual democracy. Their ideas and policies (if honestly presented) are about as popular as bubonic plague and rectal cancer.
They are actually worse than bubonic plauge and rectal cancer, because everything is worse with the rightwing (leaving aside party lables for the mo). the black death and rectal cancer are bad, but at least with the left, there would be public health and prevention programs and access to health care. with the right, you get to face the plauge and ass cancer as a rugged individual.
They are actually worse than bubonic plauge and rectal cancer
More importantly, unlike the diseases, Republicans actually enjoy making you suffer and die.
Mitch McConnell is a frothing, batshit insane leader of the GOP.
The GOP is rectal cancer.
Ergo, Mitch McConnell is frothing rectal cancer.
As numerous pundits have often pointed out, Obama, is still the luckiest man on the planet…! The Gooper Clown Car truly brings that fact to the forefront…!
All too true. If he had to win the election on his own merits, he would be toast. Fortunately for him, the Republican field looks like an insane asylum in a Fellini film.
If things continue this way for the next eleven months, I may just have to write in Bullwinkle on my ballot.
Think I will call it an early night. Finished my grading and I am beat. Take care all!
*heh* MSNBC’s new political guru, Chuck Todd, filling in for Tweety today, had tried to do the mental gymnastics of a possible 4 party showdown, in that OWS fields a candidate, and, Ron Paul enters as a third party candidate…! It was gruesome…! ;-)
Chuck Todd’s imbecility is matched only by his sense of self-importance.
I’ll write in Rocky… Anderson, that is…! ;-)
No doubt, EDP…! The
KoolaidForce is strong with him…! ;-)I like what Anderson has to say. I kinda hope he has plans beyond a run for the White House, though, because it seems pretty unlikely that he has a chance at that.
Pleasant dreams, Dr D…!
Well, some people say vote for Rocky.
(Given the current structure of our system, and how it works, and the requirements of a national security state, I’m not sure what difference what carbon-based unit is elected. But maybe Rocky is different? Who knows? P.S. I’m not talking about Rocket J. Squirrel.)
Remember, this is the asshole who tweets his disdain whenever people die because of a blizzard in the Midwest. His vision of the world ends with the Beltway.
If he eschews the Prez run, he should run for Hatch’s job…!
*heh* Ya owe me a frothy quaff…! ;-)
If the country is turning against the GOP, where do they have to turn? If the answer is the Democrats, uh-oh. Or, who cares?
Still an uphill fight, but it might be worth it just to see the look on Borin’ Orrin’s face.
I’ll buy you a beer…the word ‘frothy’ scares me.
I just had a mental image of Rick Santorum popping out of a cake. Thanks a bunch.
*heh* There’s even a Teatard FB page devoted to ‘retiring’ Borin’ Orrin…! I kid ya not…! ;-)
*heh* I love my Pale Ales, and, particularly the frothy heads they form…! *g*
Aawww… I didn’t mean to kill another thread, as I’m so wont to do…! 8-(
Lookie where Turdblossom’s little cow patties ever spring eternal…
Walker Enlists Karl Rove Protégé to Promote New Protest Policy…
The behavior of Obama is turning me totally against him and towards Rocky.
This is what comes of looking forward, not backward. We will see these turdlets pop up throughout our lifetime, everywhere, just as Rumsfeld and Cheney did after Watergate.
Nothing in there about Democratic faithlessness to party platform and policy for people! The rest is meaningless!
I can’t stand either party. If you can’t prosecute war criminals and you give tax payer money away to fraudsters, you just are not getting my vote.
Pelosi’s insider trading and “impeachment is off the table” is pathetic.
So, Jon, what’s the real story? Is it that a fact-based “Progressive” Blog that spent 2 plus years wisely informing its fact-starved reality-based readers on the failings & corruption of the Obama Administration AND Dems in Congress now redirects its argument to reinforcing the old tribal myth that the alternative is worse?
“The american people have turned sharply against the GOP since the mid-term election.”
Goebblesians’…the lot of ‘em… :o)
Seriously, I think that’s being way too general about who’s going to get the blame for our doddering economy, and all the rest of it. It’s a fantasy to think that the buck is going to stop on John Boehner’s desk, instead of Barack Obama’s. They’ll get some scorn, but the fact is that they wouldn’t be sticking it in, if Obama hadn’t bent over and invited them to do it, and most of the voters damn well know that.
What Bailey said…the relativist crap won’t cover Obama’s ass; anyone who thinks it will only needs to look at what happened in the mid-terms.
The campaign strategy of:
“You have to vote for us; the republicans are worse.” is a prescription for another shellacking, and that’s what we’re going to get, since Obama no longer HAS the clout to do anything meaningful, even if he wanted to.
I’m heartened that so many progressives aren’t willing to jump on the “at least he’s better than the republicans…” train. That cave will get us politically neutered faster than you can say “Bipartisan bullshit”.
Ctut: “Obama is still the luckiest man on the planet.”
Yep. I told a republican friend that what really pisses me off about the republican candidates is that they make Obama look like Abraham Lincoln. I still doubt that it will be enough to get him a second term, and it shouldn’t.
He and the democrats haven’t done near enough to avert more of the same problems we’re suffering, and I’m perfectly content to see the GOP back in the White House, when those chickens come home to roost.
Carl Levin and Barack Obama call themselves Democrats and they have blatant contempt for Democracy as well. A pox on both parties houses
At least the Republicans believe in something. I can respect that even if I despise those beiefs. what do the Democrats believe in? Other than rank capitulation and hippie punching.
I live in Utah, any former Democrat / non Mormon has zero chance at the state level. The Mormon Triangle states of Utard, Idaho & Wyoming will be the last bastions of the Tea Party. Hatch may not make it out of his primary but Rocky Anderson has none chance for the upset
Bi partisan is code for both parties colluding to F*ck the sheeple on behalf of their corporate masters. Obumfocks’s bi partisan ism is the #1 personal reason I will be voting for Mickey Mouse this election
As a ‘voted and believed’ in Obama Illinois person, I can tell you that his support is for the dogs amongst his past very strong supporters. I know it’s old news but it suprises me at how pissed off people are over our local guy who went big and then went for shit.
All they have to do is keep it close to steal it. Florida in 2000; Ohio in 2004; I predict Pennsylvania tips it to the Repubs in 2012. They couldn’t steal it in 2008, too obvious with McCain’s senility
Exactly…
I’m a registered Independent… and I’m not falling for any of this.
Both partys are corrupt to the core. The Democrats and Republicans can no longer be allowed to run the country.
I’m a registered Independent and I think this is finally showing the actual political makeup of Congress.
It’s pretty stunning to see the growth for the Dem’s and the slippage on the right. All I can say is “it’s about bloody time!”
