President Obama is currently tied with Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential race among registered voters according to Gallup. Obama and Romney are tied both nationally and in the “swing states.” Obama does manage to hold a very small lead over Rick Perry and Herman Cain. From Gallup:

While Obama and Romney are tied among registered voters, what matters on election day is not the opinion of all registered voters but how the people who actually show up to vote decide to cast their ballots. Here Obama has a serious problem. The Republican base is significantly more enthusiastic about voting than the Democratic base. Nationally Gallup found 56 percent of Republicans are extremely or very enthusiastic about voting while only 48 percent of Democrats say the same thing.
If the general election were taking place today between Obama and Romney, it is likely that Romney would win. Of course a lot can change over the next year.

President Obamney and His Wall Street Marching Band!
Look at the puny point differences between Obama and his GOP rivals. If that doesn’t tell the complete story of how much Zero sucks I don’t know what could. Only 4 points over a lunatic like Perry and two points over Cain?
The rightwing has succeeded in its long quest. We now have no good choices and no lesser evils, just two plain evils among the major parties.
But just wait until O’s supporters hear that SS and Medicare will be cut and homeowners fucked over. That will turn it in his favor. /s
Well shoot, Oromney is tied with Robama, surprise, surprise!!! Aren’t they pretty much interchangeable?
Then again, maybe Oromney won’t drone innocent people. Or is that Robama? I give up!
I’m just so excited about voting next year! >snark
Hey, look everybody: in a hypothetical race between two Republicans, they’re tied.
Talk about lowering expectations and dousing enthusiasm. Obama has crushed all hope among Democrats, and Republicans clearly are not at all happy with Romney. No one is happy except for the corporations, and they have to hide their glee. What a farce.
Indeed. Obama has a two point lead over Cain! What’s all this about a clown car?
He’s in it!
Who the hell are they actually polling here? There’s no way that 46% of this country would vote for Herman Cain. Come the fuck on.
Yea…..like…Would you like us to lop off a finger or do a root canal without anestesia? You pick.
UNless Obama can pull a rabbit out of a hat, it ain’;t gonna be that close. Especially in the electoral college. Or, for that matter, the electoral junior college.
Remember, a senile angry old man and a barfly from Alaska got over 50 million votes in 2008.
Jon we need polling on the issues Jobs and housing the 2 biggest issues voters care about yes the News junkie Left knows Obama surrenders to the GOP on every issue like France but the average voter does not know that. The lesser informed voter probably thinks Dems are better at Jobs and Housing than the GOP is.
Which they are to be fair. Also the GOP is the party of cutting SS and Medicare they have decades worth of brand identification on that issue with SS and Medicare cuts already happening and more likely to follow well older people vote more than younger people many have younger brothers, sisters, friends etc who have not retired yet who will be effected by these cuts. Ironically the most paranoid and likely to vote GOP are also the most likely to believe the GOP will cut their benefits now that SS and Medicare cuts are happening.
We need polling from GOPers and Tea Baggers older ones as to who they think Dem or GOP will cut their SS and Medicare benefits more.
With more cuts expected the debate on those cuts will likely switch some hard core GOP voters I don’t expect the GOP to win Florida.
It also says something about Mitt :)
Kris @ 9 is right. These polls are like the repug straw polls. The flavor of the week is about tied with Obama. Mittens will be the candidate, by default, the last man standing who has a chance of beating Obama. Meanwhile, Obama, already in campaign mode will do a good job of wiping the floor with Mittens. That will dampen, a little, the enthusiasm of the loonie right. The leser of 2 evils meme will bring more dems to support/vote for Obama. Thus, Obama will win. And if he doesn’t, the PTB are fine with that too.
But like Jon says, a lot can happen in a year.
The Great news is support for a third party that talked about creating jobs, keeping people in their homes ending the wars now, taxing the rich more would seem to be growing O has horrible numbers and the GOP has horrible numbers when you consider O is running on the worse economy since Herbert Hoover.
The GOP should have FDR numbers right now but they are not talking about jobs and homes. Well they claim tax cuts will help but after 8 years of Bush that line is tired.
But over at the big orange monster, they proclaim that for a steaming pile of crap, obama smells much better than the repugs – therefore we all have to vote for him.
And while goosestepping to the polls to vote for him, we are to enjoy the turd sandwich with which we have been blessed.
If Mitt is the front runner how many Fundy voters will turnout to support him is the big question. We can win Florida based on fears the GOP will cut SS and Medicare more. How many Southern states with tons of Fundies will suffer a 3-5% drop in fundy votes because of Mitt if he is at the top of the ticket?
How many Southern States are close states?
Two Reagan and three Bush terms…
Why wouldn’t they be tied? They share a brain.
hopefully even more people will see through the zero and his chances will dissapear entirely
I just had a nice little fight over at crooks and liars, seems many of them are obamabotalia
did it here

I expect blue dog Obama Dems to lose more of their purple state seats no matter what happens this election.
Either O speaks by or he loses in which case we argue third party or a Real Lefty candidate.
No matter what happens Blue Dogs will lose and the wisdom of being in the center will be destroyed. The only Dems likely to gain seats will be Lefties that support OWS.
Given the Tea Baggers are less popular than Muslims now there is a case to be made that O could win big if enough people are scared of further SS and Medicare cuts and don’t blame O for those cuts.
Granted we know O is on board 100% but less informed voters don’t know this the GOP however has decades worth of branding on SS and Medicare cuts now that they are actually happening the GOP might pay the price.
Between crazies and sociopaths, which is the lesser evil?
Tweedledum is tied with Tweedledee. Who cares?
Crazies — especially if they’re obviously crazy.
I’m still confused about who ends up on the presidential ballot and how they were allowed on it or more important not allowed.
I put Obama in again with a plurality. I’m not voting either major party, can’t see the final difference between slow starvation and quick throat cutting. Altho Obama is moving steadily towards quick throat cutting, so the difference is narrowing. Another reason to vote third party or write-in.
Yeah and I hear that some guy sold even more sucker voters a whole hope, change and transparency scam.
Just sayin’ glass houses and all.
Kind of agree, but what a choice! Having seen pictures of Duvalier’s prison cells, crazies do seem less painful. I wonder when O openly declares renditions for anyone he chooses. Just him, you know, and his “national security” cabal.
Didn’t you know the jig was up when Americans fell into line for the airport assault routine?
That’s right.
I predict Obama would and likely will lose Old Dominion.
How true! We’re all scammable by someone.
the idea is that the liberals don’t care how much money they give to public employees or in benifits because it’s tax dollars. there is no real data available from their choosen party so everthing else is just garbage. That 50 mil is good to go for decades to come.
You have some reading to do.
Perris sorry it took so long I had to get a new password at C&L I think I helped
yup
Reminds me of Mickey Rooneys’s crack about appearing in the Rose Bowl as “Mickey Rooney and his all wives marching band.” Which would have been better received, I’m guessing.
wow, they had their tighty whities all in a twist..ha ha. Your observations rang true in a world a world of bullshit legerdemain.
THANX!
It’s hard to muster much enthusiasm for a candidate who failed to deliver either hope or change, turned his back on large chunks of his party’s platform, and whose top aides expressed their open disdain for the progressive wing that helped him defeat a DLC hawk for the party nomination.
Nate Silver.
and a partridge in a pear tree
Matthews on Hardball is saying Obama must make the race about the future – a future that is really a great deal different than what we’d get under Mitt – and the Suffolk poll says the only way the race changes from an Obama loss to an Obama 7 point lead on these guys amongst likely voters is to put Hillary on the ticket, and she doesn’t want the spot and the Obamabot staff and media types would blow their minds if she were on the ticket.
Since neither of the above will happen, the conclusion is President Mitt – or Herman – in 12 months.
All he has to say is that he will veto any cuts in SS or Medicare. Exactly what he needed to say to hold the House in 2010.
He’s a fraud and a sellout.
Really sad how FDL pushes the two party crap endlessly.
Ron Paul or a corrupt evil moron from one of the two traitor parties.
Wake up FDL.
Always glad to help Perris :) If they want to attack you they need facts not just an accusation.
Phuck Ron Paul
Just for the sake of context,
Are voting systems still privatized?
Are the systems still purposefully built less secure than similar machines and software that protect the almighty dollar bill? What’s more important to our democracy, the dollar bill or our vote? Never mind.
Do we still have a bunch of elected idiots who don’t dare speak of election fraud and flipping elections?
How would these 1%’er freaks in both parties poll against just an average ordinary fellow American? Greece did it long ago, right? Why can’t we at least consider it, might make for an interesting poll result?
Ok, back to the regularly scheduled poll results. And thanks JW.
The rightwing didn’t come to the dance alone.
Anyone who carries the D label is going to be consumed by the D party.
Just go ahead and accept what a D says wrt support of OWS. Any congress wo(man) with guts would declare her independence now and recognize it’s too late for words of support.
It kinda bugs me when I hear talk that hints at or aligns OWS with the left or D party, though I know you didn’t necessarily suggest either, just this underlying weirdness I see in some posts from time to time, again not yours.
You know obama isn’t in the center, right? Here and even at OWS, I hear people say things like this. It’s just wrong though. I hope I don’t have to explain why. I catch myself slipping into previous ways of thinking from time to time, still will, I’m sure.
Many of the TeaP despite the group having billionaire backing should be in OWS. One thing that will hold back OWS is not reaching out to our fellow average Americans on the right, not the way zero does it 1% to 1%, but as much as possible tear down the walls between left and right. I am good at that face-to-face but online here, it’s damn difficult.
I haven’t felt enthusiastic since he announced his transition team. It’s gone downhill since. I tried being a voice of reason within my local Dem groups, but they’re still just tribalistic sheep. I sent in my voter registration change of party form (back to “None” from “D”) the other day. It’s not worth fighting an unwinnable war. The system has got to change. Democrats and Republicans are functionally, as far as the end result goes, identical. Time to move on from both and start working in earnest for real campaign and election reform.
