Two new national polls out today confirm that the top tier of the Republican primary is made up of just Mitt Romney and Herman Cain. The same polls also show Rick Perry continues to fall even farther behind in the race.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll found Romney leads the field with 23 percent with Cain at 19 percent. Ron Paul at 13 percent took third place, and Rick Perry was all the way back in fourth place with just 10 percent.
The most recent national poll from PPP actually finds Cain currently has the lead in the Republican presidential primary, but the race remains fluid. From PPP:
Cain is up 30-22 on Romney with Newt Gingrich sneaking past Rick Perry for 3rd place at 15% to Perry’s 14% with Michele Bachmann and Ron Paul tied for 5th at 5%, Jon Huntsman 7th at 2%, Rick Santorum 8th at 1%, and Gary Johnson 9th with less than 1%. [...]
There are indications within the poll that Cain’s stay at the top could be short lived. Only 30% of his supporters are solidly committed to him with 70% saying they might still go on to support someone else. Those numbers aren’t much better for Romney, who only has 31% of his supporters solidly committed, or Gingrich, who only has 34% solidly committed. The strongest base of support among the Republican front runners- even if it’s shrinking- is Perry’s- 48% of his remaining backers say they’ll definitely vote for him. Overall 70% of Republicans are either undecided right now or open to voting for someone different than who they’re with now- that signals an extremely wide open race.
Both polls had Perry in fourth place. This is a huge drop from roughly a month ago when Perry held the lead in almost every single national poll. Perry has quickly gone from front runner to just another second tier individual also running. It is unlikely Perry’s poor debate performance last night will be able to arrest this trend.

seems to me the fact that cain is not only running second, but I see him on the TEEvee FAR more then romney, the puppeteers are pushing a candidate they know republicans will have trouble voting for
I am guessing they want cain to run before romney because romney has a better chacne against obama and the LAST thing they want to do is remove the republican already in office

For some reason I see Cain getting the same reception at the convention that Sherriff Bart got when he arrived in Rock Ridge.

Cain would pull some black votes away from Obama, not a whole lot, but some.
And for Obama, whose numbers are bouncing back and forth on the brink of withdrawal from 2011, “some” is going to be politically lethal.
BTW, the repubs LOVE their token blacks, and putting one in as VP nominee would be NO problem for most of them.

Cain should be calling it the 9-1-1 plan, since it will create a national emergency.
