This is a frightening look at how much more corrupt our politics will become in the post Citizens United era. A secret shell corporation was created, it made a huge political donation, and then was dissolved soon after. From MSNBC:
A mystery company that pumped $1 million into a political committee backing Mitt Romney has been dissolved just months after it was formed, leaving few clues as to who was behind one of the biggest contributions yet of the 2012 presidential campaign.
The existence of the million-dollar donation — as gleaned from campaign and corporate records obtained by NBC News — provides a vivid example of how secret campaign cash is being funneled in ever more circuitous ways into the political system.
[...]
The corporate records provide no information about the owner of the firm, its address or its type of business.
If you ever wonder why in our “democracy” Washington politicians seem so much more concerned about the desires of a few rich people instead of what regular people want you need look no farther. It takes money to run and win political office. Regular people can not afford to set up secret dummy corporations to funnel millions into efforts help politicians. On the other hand a single rich person can. This is exactly why politicians spend so much time trying to make a relatively few rich happy.

O Santa, Baby, I want a corporation in my stocking….I bet you know where to get that….Cannot be real.

Sure it’s real if you are willing to sell your soul. Of course these days most politicians have sold theirs before they even get to DC. Money-grubbing pigs feeding at public expense.
So now even though it’s come out, he can’t give the money back? Well, isn’t that conVEEnient.
All thanks to to RIGHT WING Judges on SCOTUS who have destroyed our country except for the rich and well healed & connected few!!
The “People” be damned!!
On Please! You’ve forgotten the Golden Rule:
IOKIYAR
Of course, these days that applies to either *branch* of the corporatist ONE party system we have.
Until “We the people” join together, repubs, dems, indys, libs and cons, into one force it will be business as usual in DC. There are people on all sides upset with the actions in DC, but how to deal with it is the question. If united we could be a force to be reckoned with, however individually we are just small groups of disgruntled individuals. How to unite is the question of the day.
A million looks like someone is trying to tilt the playing field on the right. However the game is just starting and the first basket of the game does not guarantee the winner.
A bit OT but not by much:
Gee I wonder why?????
Because the earth is flat and that means Big Corp can make profit anywhere while their American employees have to compete on unequal footing with dollar a day third world workers unencumbered by OSHA or EPA.
And, of course, Big Corp owns the United States government, the courts and the media.
In the era of corporate personhood, I guess this constitutes a murder/suicide to cover everyone’s tracks. This is money laundering straight up. What is to stop a foreign corporation, Saudi prince, or another government from hiding their contributions this way?
I’m just amazed the corporations haven’t demanded that the politicians they own wear advertising on their suits like nascar. This would make it so much easier for them to see how many they have purchased and with ones they need to buy.
At least it’s a fair fight.
No no! Americans need to believe in democracy. No matter how clearly we firepups see this, too many voters don’t. Won’t. We’re exceptional don’t ‘cha know.
Absolutely nothing, zilch, zip, nada, bupkiss.
No doubt, it’s already happened, albeit that is an assertion for which I have no attribution. But given the way things are, why should any of these greedheaded monsters give a stuff about who gives them big buck$$ or for what purpose. Money talks. Don’t matter who’s doing the talking, in this day & age.
OT but had to share:
CA Dem Party progressives explore primary challenge to Obama
At least it will convey to BO that California may already be lost due to his Hoover record!! Suck it up Obama Suck it up!!!!!!!
Yup!!!!
Not a “fair fight” for the average US voter, no matter how you vote. Not “fair” for me, not “fair” for you, not “fair” for anyone who is middle/working class or lower down the totem pole. Might just want to consider who gets treated “fairly” under this system. Here’s a clue: Not YOU (and not me, either).
HuffPo reports an FAA deal per The Hairy Reid
This is awesome!!
Well, there you have it. For, by, of, POOF!
Remember the moving lips when the Prez complained about the citizens united decision during state of the union? Black robe: “Not true”
Put it into writing and we’ll pass a law so demanding by mutual consent.
Oh I have never forgot that at all. It said everything about their attitudes about Big Money and they continue to illustrate it in their further decisions in favor of corporate America and against living breathing people!!
Me, too. The easiest way to get rich now is to run for office, get a dummy corp set up to launder drug money, and take a cut when you hire the crooks to do some phony ads. This stuff is better than Pepsi Cola!
sorry below. my comment was in reply to yours.
Great idea. How about renaming the capital after Goldman-Sachs or the Bank of America. Reagan buildings are so passé.
So the corporate records list only an attorney to contact.
And for this, corporations receive limited liability for those nameless people. Now there’s a state-by-state campaign for you. Make the pricipals of corporations disclose their identity. But that would mean fewer corporation registration fees for the states. There would be no incentive to multiply the legal entities that you held.
Like Knut @26 says, it’s good that corporations are not asking for naming rights.
Phillip Morris Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Koch Industries Capitol Building
Weyerahuser Yosemite National Park
Pfizer Washington Monument
Lincoln Mutual Memorial
Perry Homes House Office Building
Lockheed Pentagon
Halliburton Justice Department Building
Monsanto Agriculture Department Building
Taser International Department of Homeland Security Building
Exxon Department of the Interior
Time-Warner Yellowstone National Park
Isn’t better to sell the naming rights than to sell the entire asset?
How else do you think that Mitt could pull a Reagan and get financed by Iran?
Interesting. They’ll primary Obama but not Feinstein.
They apparently don’t remember the hostage taking of December 2009 that got us the original Catfood Commission. She’s the only one of the hostage takers up for election in 2012. Three have retired and Mark Warner doesn’t come up until 2014.
I guess when you’re just making symbolic moves it really doesn’t matter who you make them against – the black guy or the old lady. But thinking about how to get rid of Darrell Issa doesn’t enter the conversation, I bet.
Well, even non-persons like corporations that exist for a few months have the right to
free speechpump money into the system to the detriment of the entire democratic process. It’s right there in the US Constitution.Hmmm … an extra bit of cash stuffed in Romney’s brassier on behalf of grateful billionaires created from the Goldman Sachs real estate bubble in China? A small down-payment on a future “free” trade agreement benefiting Indian moguls newly minted by JP Morgan? The possibilities really are endless!
They are as endless as the amount of cash to be pooled.
Since the CA Democratic Progressive Caucus has already tried to CENSURE Feinstein, I am sure they would have no problem primary-ing her.
Excellent. I hope they do it with a candidate who is young and who can win.
