The Supreme Court of Illinois has granted Rahm Emanuel a stay of the appellate court’s ruling, so his name will still appear on the ballot for Chicago mayor. According to the Chicago Sun Times:
The Illinois Supreme Court has ordered the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners to put Rahm Emanuel’s name back on the mayoral ballot, attorneys for Emanuel said Tuesday.
The court has not decided whether to hear Emanuel’s appeal of Monday’s Illinois Appellate Court ruling that tossed him out of the race to replace Mayor Daley. The Supreme Court granted Emanuel’s motion for a stay of the ruling, Emanuel attorney Mike Kasper said Tuesday.
The stay was critical for Emanuel campaign because the city was about to begin printing ballots for the election.
Given that the election is less than a month away, we should expect a decision from the Supreme Court shortly on whether to hear the case and if Emanuel meets the residency requirements.

It’s been fun watching Rahm have a meltdown over the last 24 hours…
Any influence of all this questionable residency publicity on his election chances?
I thought the city had put off printing the ballots until yesterday’s decision and then started immediately, without Rahm. That was certainly the impression I took away from yesterday’s news stories.
Does it matter what the Supremes decide in Illinois, now? I mean, what if someone is elected who isn’t eligible? Has that ever happened yet?
Luckily, we have Valerie Jarrett telling us what Obama thinks. I’m sure the Illinois Supremes are happy for his guidance.
Rahm will get his way on this, and I’m shocked. Yawn.
The biggest non-story out there. SCOTOI will rule that his ownership in absentia satisfies the residency requirements, and he’ll be on the ballot, and the machine will ensure his election. The End.
Like Russia after the meltdown of the Soviet Union, we’re living in a state of legal nihilism. The result being, you can say “no” to the powerful fuckers who run the country, but you can’t make it stick.
What really gets me is that Rove used public funds to brief political operatives in the White House, but the DOJ won’t pursue it because the Bush Administration is no longer there. It’s like saying the robbers go free because they’re not in the bank anymore. Another pass from O.
Well along similar lines, corporations headquartered in the US should have to pay payroll taxes on overseas wages :)
Yeah, and neither is going to happen.
Rahm, like his Republican predecessors, gets a pass and gets to do what he wants… the laws be d*mned, as long as you’re an elite or a corporation.
Yep. Pretty much. The checks and balances are gone. The people who are supposed to be policing eachother are the people that enable eachother. It’s disgusting. And it will be the downfall of this country.
“People of Chicago. We, the committee of the elite (and Rick Santelli, well-known twat) would like to introduce you to your candidate for mayor, Rahm Emmanuel. We invite you to enjoy the privilege of being allowed to vote for him.”
Remember He’s a Bankster (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rahm_emanuel#Career_in_finance)
so the rule of law doesn’t apply

I’d kind of like to have him on the ballot — only if it can be guaranteed he’ll finish no better than third.
