Alabama Republican Congressional hopeful Rick Barber is running one of the most ridiculous campaign ads this cycle. His message: Impeach President Obama, and strongly hinting at possible armed rebellion:
In the June 1 GOP primary, Barber managed to get 29 percent of the vote in the 2nd District, while establishment-backed Martha Roby took 49 percent. Since Roby did not manage to reach the 50 percent needed to avoid a runoff, she’ll face Barber July 13 in a head-to-head matchup to take on Democratic incumbent Bobby Bright.
The chance that Barber will win the runoff is very remote. We’ll have to wait until next month to find out whether his message of impeachment or something more “if that’s not enough” can lead to a huge upset victory.

Now, doesn’t Rick Barber think he is special.
Not that I would be watching, but I can’t wait to see where G.Beck goes with this….made for each other is how I see it.
From my experience working in the South, I found that a significant percentage of them are predisposed to violence as a first rather than last resort when it comes to matters of conflict resolution. This guy seems ridiculous to us, but he’s a good ol’ boy down home.
Exactly
This is just not going to work out well.
I like it when they are truly crazy as this guy clearly is. I think people are beginning to realize – even in the Tea Party Party – that there’s a difference between being passionate about what you believe and being ready for the looney bin.
Haven’t you heard? Glen Beck is going to lead a rally at the Lincoln Memorial on the anniversary of MLK’s I have a dream speech, August 28th. On that day Beck will announce the 100 year plan. They laughed and ridiculed Hitler as well.
Gah!
My sentiments exactly…! ;-)
Only a raving maniac could come up with this shit…..let’s party!!!
watertiger is upstairs!
Late Night: . . . And Ketchup is Still Not a Vegetable.
That is true. But this man makes perfect sense to many working class southern white men. Violence is the first reaction of many when challenged.Check out the gun carry laws in the southern states. There was a similar campaign ad by another candidate in Alabama recently — rides up on a horse, dismounts, and pulls a rifle out of the saddle holster and says something suggesting violence to opponents.
More than a few are elected to office. There would be more if if were not for the high percentage of African American voters to add to the few sane white voters.
Trying to imagine what possible virtue these folks could be seeing in that kind of behavior… naw, it’s just not coming to me. All I see is assholes dressing themselves in the trappings of criminality. Look like foolish selfish bullying dicks.
One thing is very clear…many Republicans and current “tea party” members need a history lesson.
A Tax Revolt or Revolting Taxes?
Regarding President Obama, although I am unhappy about most of his positions thus far, impeach him for what?
That’s the conclusion Malcolm Gladwell came to in “Blink,” I think it was, about all honor cultures.
Anyways, I don’t think these Southerners need to revolt. I think we should just expel them.
OMG.
It’s Fake Thomas Jefferson!
Tommy
What’s disgusting is that the media treats these guys with kid gloves. During the recent KY primaries, all the attention was on Rand Paul and very little on the fact that the loser on the Democratic side got more votes than did the winner on the Republican side.
They represent the southern working folks’ definition of manliness. .
If humanness is in conflict with manliness, then they can keep their frickin’ manliness.
