The Arkansas machine is really turning out for Blanche Lincoln. Despite promises from Election Commissioner Charles Tapp that they wouldn’t shut down polling places in Garland County (site of Bill Halter’s best performance during the first primary), voters are in fact being turned away as seen in the video above.
Says Blue Arkansas, “make no mistake about it, they’re stealing the election for Blanche Lincoln.”
Meanwhile, Blanche was on Candy Crowley’s show this morning saying that the unions were spending $10 million against her. By this afternoon, I heard her on the radio saying that they were spending $12 million against her. Maybe they’re pointing a death star at the state, too. Or maybe people in Arkansas just haven’t been into Blanche for a while now, and she’s just having a hard time accepting it.
Blanche was also complaining that Halter has more small dollar donors from California than he did from Arkansas. You know, California, that godless hedonistic state where they hate good wholesome country folk. Where her sister, the MADONNA “LIKE A PRAYER” VIDEO DIRECTOR, just happens to live. And work. In the movie business. The one Blanche voted to give $246 million in earmarks to. That Mark Pryor voted against.
Blanche apparently believes that her $3 million in PAC money is morally superior to $35 bucks given by a guy in Fresno. And did I somehow miss the press conference where JP Morgan announces they’re relocating world headquarters to Bald Knob?
Blanche was on the floor railing against the public option even as her website said she supported it. She ran ads bragging about voting against the bank bailouts, apparently forgetting she’d cast a critical vote for TARP I.
Forget about out-of-state liberal interest groups. I’d say her shaky grip on reality is the bigger problem here.

Damm I though the GOP would do this to Hispanics in AZ, or African Americans in Florida. The Dems are doing this just where is the Justice Dept?
Is CNN or any of the MSM covering this story let? I first heard about this story here yesterday.
There’s your democracy, folks.
If this gets any press after what then Obama administration tried to sideline Sestak and Romanoff in Colorado, it’s going to be very bad for Obama…I guess.
This seems to be de rigeur these days
The sign at the polling place references Arkansas election law: 7-5-202 and 7-5-418.
5-418 seems to say early voting is required on Saturdays, Sundays may not be.
Obama owns the DOJ and he’s shilling for Lincoln.
Phone banking for Bill Halter is still needed. Contact Ali Rozell (PCCC) at alexa dot rozell at gmail dot com. Also try Bill Halter’s website.
Wait till Tuesday when polling places in Halter strongholds “have” to be closed for various reasons…
Is this being reported on Local Arkansas TV?
The problem is a bunch of polling places were closed on Saturday too.
What does it take to get an international body such as the UN to supervise an election? It can’t be that the government must request it because otherwise all of the (other) Third World pseudodemocracies would refuse supervision. I would request supervision for every election here in Florida if I knew how.
Carry Grandma to the voting booth!
That appears to be illegal. Let’s get out the Bill Halter vote tomorrow and Tuesday and make the voter suppression moot.
Here’s Democracy For America’s Halter GOTV landing page.
The system requires you dial in to a training conference call for 20 minutes or so. After that you dial a toll free number, enter your phone number, a couple of code numbers and hang up. The system calls you back and starts dialing voters for you – no long distance charges for connecting to Arkansas voters.
So what do we do then?
Well, she’s likely a less reality-challenged sort of person than the fools stealing the election for her.
Gee, I don’t know. Take to the streets?
David Dayen is upstairs!
DNI Nominee Clapper Believed Iraqi WMD Shipped to Syria
We get Bill Halter a big victory by turning out his voters.
There should be lawsuits filed immediately about this.
Blanche Lincoln stealing an election like a republican? Whoda Thunkit? Clearly Obama is pissed about the loss of Specter and Mongiardo and is showing his conservative street cred by supporting voter suppression. Well done, Barry baby.
No! Not the death star!
I had the misfortune to witness Blanche’s smarmy display on Crowley’s show this morning…bragging about being a “blue dog” and a “moderate.” Shit. I had to take a shower right afterward to rid myself of the stench.
A-yep! Volunteer to call persons in Garland County and tell them how to get to the polls:
http://www.billhalter.com/activategotv?
If you can, publicize this over at DKos — I have a diary up for that purpose: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/6/6/201815/4670
Obama/Rahm must be pissed off about Seestak, so they are going to make damn sure Lincoln wins.
It would be something if Halter pulled this out. Halter is the only shot the Dems have at keeping the seat. Lincoln is an extremely unpopular politican right now (much like Specter), but she’s the establishmsnet and a DLCer, so naturally Obama wants to fight for her.
Of course, you’ll probably be calling voters in other AR counties as well.
imagine if sell out pieces of shit like clinton and obama had worked this hard against pharma-tauzin & ahip?
wow! then they wouldn’t be sell out pieces of shit, would they?
rmm.

Both Stephens Group and Monsanto have been huge contributors to Lincoln.

Oh, and the Stephens Group is also owner of many TV and radio stations, also.
And who exactly is “They’re? ” Hmm, could it be …the Democrats? Looks like the Dems have adopted the Republican playbook. When will people realize Repubs and Dems are the same party with a Janus face? One frowns and tells you to go screw and while the other smiles…then screws you.

Which makes clear why no one, other than DKos, was polling a runoff election for one of Obama’s pet senators.
No pre-election poll numbers, no way of knowing how much they had to finagle the results.
Just remember:
A year from now after Halter (probably) wins the general election, we will be complaining about him just as we do Jim Webb (D-VA), John Tester (D-MT), Claire McCaskill (D-MO), etc. We will be complaining about future Senator Joe Sestak (D-PA) for the same reasons.
These are not progressive Senators; they’re at best moderate-to-conservative Democrats. Are they better than the opponents they did/will defeat? Perhaps. But that is the same character of claim made by folks at Daily Kos: vote for the Democrats because, well, at least they’re not Republicans. Many of us want to see Blanche Lincoln defeated because she is a corporate shill, and because we all enjoy the feeling produced by a shift kick of schadenfreude to the groin. But at these moments, be careful how you spend your precious time and resources.
Halter has courted progressives by using our language (and soliciting our donations, despite his millions) and maybe, after being elected for a long, six year term, he will jump on the progressive bandwagon. Maybe he will. However, as most of us are acutely aware, these days it has become a trend among Democratic candidates to say pretty things during an election and do ugly things upon being elected: cf. Obama, President of the United States. At this moment, this time, we need to start demanding evidence from Democratic candidates of progressive values as demonstrated by their actions BEFORE giddily supporting them in the primary and general elections.
Schadenfreude feels good. But schadenfreude doesn’t pay your medical bills, your college tuition, your mortgage payment. There is no evidence to suggest that Halter (or Sestak, or the gaggle of ostensibly ‘good’ Democrats elected in the previous cycle) will do much to help us on that front, much less draft and vote for actual progressive legislation.
Oh yeah,
inb4 ‘purity troll!’
Stinks. Calls for immediate response on several fronts:
1. Get usable polling place info out to the voters by any means necessary. For example, post the open ones on the doors of the closed ones. This is the most important thing, save the election if possible.
2. Start legal challenge to the polling place closures to get more of them open so folks who don’t get the word ccan still participate. (TRO, declarative relief, etc.)
3. Get ready to legally challenge the election results if necessary.
4. PR effort to let the people know about the monkeybusiness and give them the chance to voice their outrage
5. Call this to the attention of Voting Rights Division investigators/prosecutors
Where is the DOJ ?
oooops! my bad they are corporate owned so they are in this with Lincoln.

Fact of the matter: This Election Commissioner violated the entire law that he was supposed to be representing for 18 years…like he didn’t know!
He supports someone in this election and since Halter won Garland County in the primary, we can only make assumptions.
The whole matter is not a Republican nor a Democratic matter…it is about our Rights To Vote! This has nothing to do with the President…it has to do with local political machines making descisions that suppress the vote and disenfranchises the voters…
Better believe we will be staking out the polling locations that were supposed to be open so we can direct the voters to their only TWO choices in the county. There are some of willing to risk heat stroke, sunburn and any other elements that may come to see that our fellow citizens can exercise their Constitutional Rights…whether it is a win or a loss for either candidate…our entire Election Commission needs/must resign or be voted out!
DOJ will get a call if they don’t and suits will be filed if they refuse.
In Colorado we have a similar primary under way. It’s the grassroots progressive core-values Democrat Andrew Romanoff vs. the corporate-financed faux-centrist ConservaDem Michael Bennet.
Fellow netroots activists: Please consider supporting Romanoff in the same way you support Halter. It’s a very similar primary fight.
More about the Colorado primary:
http://seminal.firedoglake.com/diary/50314
Romanoff is not accepting any corporate campaign cash.
CHARLES TAPP is the head Elections Commissioner (or similar) in Garland County who is playing the games with voting locations, times, and so on. One can Google his name, “Garland” (for Garland County), “Halter”, to find current reports on the situation.
TAPP’s email, publicly listed in the County website’s list of officials, is: ‘ cmtapp@cablelynx.com ‘.
I see no reason that a large number of people (10,000, 20,000 or more, perhaps) are not perfectly (and legally) entitled to write him at the rate of 200 or 300 per day telling him why they do or do not like his actions. One might mention spreading the word about never taking a vacation trip to Arkansas, that his not-so-bright action probably raised the energy even further for Halter, and so on. Researching detailed Garland County information on the web could help one give the subjects of these emails “local-concern-sounding” phrasings, making them fairly difficult to ignore en-masse.
