. James Traficant says he will file later today to run as an independent against either Tim Ryan (D, OH-17) or Charlie Wilson (D, OH-06). Ryan’s district has a PVI of D+12 while Wilson’s is R+2. I guess everyone needs a hobby.
. Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio plans to announce on Monday if he’ll run for Governor or Arizona. Arizona law would require him to resign immediately as sherriff.
. The NRCC will dump another $250,000 against Mark Critz in PA-12. Who could’ve predicted that a guy with ties to Murtha’s ethics investigation would have problems at a time like this? Oh right, Barbara Hafer — who was criticized for “attacking Murtha’s legacy” for bringing it up when the DCCC was trying to run her out of the race. (h/t Swing State)
. After the Dems tried to cut off her fundraising and run her out of the race, Jennifer Brunner says she won’t support Lee Fisher if he wins and she loses in the Democratic primary. Fisher leads Brunner by 41 to 24 in the latest Quinnipiac poll, though Brunner does slightly better than Fisher against Republican Rob Portman. It’s within the margin of error, howerver, and the Kos poll finds the reverse. Both polls show Brunner with stronger favorables than Portman.
. Surprise, surprise: Latest poll from the Honolulu Advertiser finds Republican Charles Djou is leading Democrats Colleen Hanabusa and Ed Case in a winner-take-all race to fill Neil Abercrombie’s seat (Djou 36, Case 28 and Hanabusa 22). Far from being the result of some GOP master plan, Djou is only leading in a D+11 district because the DCCC tried to run Hanabusa out of the race and came in on Case’s side when he decided to jump into a race that she was clearly winning.

Traficant … !
I have mixed emotions about Arpaio. If he runs and has to resign, that’s a very good thing.
But then, AZ might be getting so nuckin’ futz, he could win.
There is that.
And that….
My folks live in Phoenix. I visit them several times a year, and I will continue to. It really is a great place with cool people.
At some point, the old racists will die out and Arizona will go solid D. I think that time is coming very soon.
Arpaio isn’t going to run for gov; just a few minutes ago

To be replaced by their children. AZ’s no different from the South in that respect.
Will that happen right after all that hope and change O promised becomes reality?
The most insightful thing I’ve read about the Ds and Rs recently is that they don’t care if they get (re)elected. They’re in it to rape the treasury, and they know that if they don’t get (re)elected this time, they will after the bastards currently in office get thrown out, giving them another opportunity to rape.
And what diff will it make if AZ is R or D anyhow?
Arpiao decided not to run.
Precisely!
If you’re looking for an interesting primary, WV-1 is pitting incumbent Mollohan against his first dem primary challenger in almost 20 years. The challenger, Mike Oliverio, is more of a blue-dog but Mollohan has had a lot of conspiracies and controversies mar his record. Should be an interesting one!
Minnesota Gov race should be fun too. Repub candidate wants to nullify all federal laws!
And white pride folks really do reside in the AZ legislature.
Good to be a big fish in a small pond.
That has the echo of sickening truth.
Do Traficant and his rug have to run separately, or can he qualify with just the single filing?
I still can’t get over the fact that nobody at the DSCC was fired over Massachusetts.
Why does it seem like all the candidates DC Dems want to kick out are women? Hi, Oh, Pa-special, NC
Like a gigantic Orange County.
Obama is getting what he wants, an R congress. Then in 2012 he can run against the Rs, and say to the electorate:
“Look at what I had to protect you from, vote for me”.
We Are Main Street, a rejoinder to the incredibly sociopathic, “We Are Wall Street.”
Maybe it’s eleventy dimensional chess. Surely, a few right wingers have figured out that this administration will give the good church goin’, oil drillin’, worker screwin’ coal movin’ real Amurrikans whatever they want. The Messiah and his deciples might be counting on a shitload of righty votes.
Also too, it sets up pretty well to blame the left if the forthcoming debacle is truly as catacalysmic as it promises to be.
If you knew how much I had to drink, you’d be impressed with the big words….
The Republican Party of Minnesota establishment is still in shock. Their guy was Marty Seifert, the fellow who was slated to follow Tim Pawlenty’s career path by going from House GOP Leader to governor. Emmer was this doofus who was spouting Tea Party rhetoric well before there was such a thing. Next to Allen Quist, he’s the weakest serious candidate the Republicans have fielded in a quarter-century for the governorship. However, the Democrats are more than capable of screwing it up and letting him win.
